Old West Beer - Premium Lager (pack of 8 cans 473 mL)
π€ Old West - A Premium Lager from the Wild West
Old West is an exclusive craft beer, developed by The Nose Mustache especially for Pub Country Old West. It is a high-quality Premium Lager, designed to be extremely refreshing, yet with a complexity of malts that satisfies even the most demanding palates.
π The Style and History: From Munich Lagers to Wild West Saloons
-
The Premium Lager Style: It emerged as a commercial evolution of traditional clear European Lagers. While mass-produced "Standard Lagers" use rice or corn to cut costs, Premium Lager stands out by using a significantly larger quantity (or the entirety) of barley malt and noble hops. The result is a golden beer, with a slightly more present body, creamy foam, and a more evident malty flavor, without losing its lightness.
-
Consumption in Saloons: In the 19th century, American Wild West saloons were the heart of social life. Contrary to what Hollywood movies show, whiskey was not always the first choice: beer was the cowboys' great favorite to quench their thirst after long journeys. Initially, the beers there were dark and served at room temperature. Everything changed with the arrival of German immigrants, who brought low-fermentation technology (Lager), commercial ice, and glass mugs. Clear, cold, and refreshing beer became a luxury item and a desire on the wooden counters of the Wild West.
π§ͺ The Anatomy of Old West
A flawless recipe that combines German precision and the soul of the pub:
-
The Triad of Malts (Pilsen, Carapils, and Melanoidin): Pilsen malt provides the light cereal base. Carapils is responsible for that beautiful, dense, and persistent foam. The great secret lies in the touch of Melanoidin malt, which gives the beer a deeper golden color and subtle notes reminiscent of baked bread crust and honey.
-
German Hops: The classic Magnum delivers a clean and very subtle bitterness in the background, while the noble Mittelfrueh adds an extremely subtle herbal and floral aroma to the nose.
-
Diamond Yeast: This low-fermentation (Lager) strain ensures a dry, clean, and crisp finish, making each sip call for the next.
π‘ Consumption Experience
-
Optimal Temperature: Ideally served between 3Β°C and 5Β°C. It is a beer made to cool down the heat of the bar, but with enough quality to maintain the malt flavor even when very cold.
-
Suggested Glass: Thick Glass Mug (Dimpled Mug) or the Willybecher glass. The mug fits the saloon atmosphere, keeps the temperature longer due to its thick glass, and allows for vigorous toasts among friends.
π½οΈ Suggested Pairings
The versatility of Premium Lager makes it the ideal partner for a Pub Country's rustic menu.
-
Pork Ribs with Barbecue Sauce: The subtle sweetness of the beer's malts perfectly matches the barbecue sauce, while the high carbonation cleanses the fat from the pork.
-
Portion of Rustic Potatoes with Bacon and Cheese: The mild bitterness of the hops cuts through the saltiness of the bacon and the richness of the melted cheese, cleansing the palate.
-
Grilled Burger with Cheddar: The toasted flavor of the grilled meat echoes the notes of Melanoidin malt, creating a perfect harmony of comforting flavors.
